BI & ETL SOLUTIONS – Hospitality industry
BI SOLUTION – OVERVIEW
Business users generally come from a non-technical background and it becomes increasingly difficult when you have to monitors your applications not only from functional but also with a technical perspective. Our client also faced a similar scenario
BUSINESS NEED
The business uses wanted to cross-check whether the viewable data in BI report as well as EP planning is up-to-date. To confirm that one has to check ETL application for Schema data as well as BI Application for Cube data. There was a technical hurdle as the users were not aware of the technologies. One has to have respective tool knowledge in order get status run of these tools.
THE SOLUTION
A special status run record was created which enabled the Business user to know the last run status, Date and time of last run for BI cubes, ETL Jobs as well as some user tables.
THE BENEFITS
The business now can check data consistency which out raising help of technical team for monitoring the system
ETL – BUSINESS NEED
SOB-Share of Business, a KPI which the company enters in EP planning Cube directly, As SOB KPI was manual and not from the ERP system or Operational Data source, whenever there was data refresh in the cube .Other fields would change their respective position while SOB would never change respectively.
For Instance:
Supplier I was ranked as Position_1, Product Rate: 10SOB: 50% (Manual Input)
BI and ETL solutions – Hospitality Industry
Supplier II at Position_2 Product Rate: 12SOB: 30% (Manual Input )
Supplier III at Position_3 Product Rate: 14SOB :20 % (Manual Input )
Let’s say data changes and now Ranking logic gives different ranking
Supplier II was ranked as Position_1, Product Rate: 8SOB: 50% (Manual Input )
Supplier I at Position_2 Product Rate : 13 SOB :30 % (Manual Input )
Supplier III at Position_3 Product Rate :14 SOB :20 % (Manual Input )
Thus the data for SOB would be irrelevant because it didn’t change with respective position of
its supplier.
THE SOLUTION
A Package was created in SSIS where the exported data from Cube is exported to Database and every time entire data would be refreshed including SOB at appropriate position giving relevant and consistent information to the Business user.
Supplier II was ranked as Position_1, Product Rate: 8SOB:30 % (Manual Input )
Supplier I at Position_2 Product Rate:13 SOB:50 % (Manual Input )
Supplier III at Position_3 Product Rate:14 SOB:20 % (Manual Input )
THE BENEFITS
Now Business can do better analysis even though product rate of Supplier II is less still it has been given only 30 % of tenders whereas the supplier two which charging more is given the higher number of tenders or business, thus leading to right decision making.
